Kim Tatham (BDS)Dental Surgeon
Kim graduated from the University of Otago in 1997 after growing up here in Piopio and attending high school in Hamilton. In the years since she has worked as a Dental House surgeon in Wellington and Lower Hutt Hospitals, taken up permanent positions in the UK with the National Health Service whilst also enjoying her OE and exploring the world. Since returning to New Zealand in 2005, she has been based in Te Awamutu working in private practice prior to opening Piopio Dental in 2017. During this time, she also held part time Dental Public Health Roles in Lakes DHB for Tipu Ora Oranga Niho and was the Public Health Dentist for the Lakes DHB School Dental Therapists.
She is a past president and current board member (since 2008), of the New Zealand Institute of Minimal Intervention Dentistry (NZIMID) and was formerly the New Zealand Dental Association’s(NZDA) Graduate Development Co-ordinator for Waikato/Bay of Plenty and a NZDA New Graduate Mentor. Since 2017, Kim and her team also co-ordinate a charitable dental conference in Piopio that brings dentists from all over the North Island to Piopio. She also presents at continuing education meetings and conferences in New Zealand. In 2019 Piopio Dental was also the winner of the Health and Well Being section of the NZI Rural Womens Business Awards. In her free time, you’ll find her enjoying farm life and the outdoors with her husband Mat and their two children, Max and Zoe.
Julie WalkerDental Receptionist
Originally from Hamilton, Julie is now a Piopio local. Prior to joining the team at Piopio Dental, Julie managed a manufacturing floor for 18 years. Julie is married to Chris and they have four children between them. Outside of work Julie enjoys travelling, camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Remi ButlerDental Assistant
Originally from the Philippines Remi and her family now live in Te Kuiti. Prior to moving to Te Kuiti, 5 years ago, Remi lived in South Auckland where she also worked as a Dental Assistant. Outside of work Remi loves cooking, edible gardening and connecting with family and friends, here and overseas. One of her passions includes learning and practicing sustainability and she is working towards a life of self sufficiency.
Gem PatersonDental Assistant
Originally from Pirongia/Te Awamutu, Gem has her Diploma in Beauty Therapy and is now currently gaining her Dental Assistant Certificate. Outside of work Gem lives on a local Dairy farm with her young family and enjoys getting out into nature, enjoying Shinrin Yoku and Star gazing. Gem also enjoys Dark History, Space and Nature Doco's.
